ICAI Muscat Chapter elects new leadership team

Muscat: The Muscat Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) conducted its 13th Annual General Meeting virtually on May 4. The chapter also elected its managing committee for 2021 – 2024.

AGM meeting was followed by a panel discussion on “Choosing your leadership style” moderated by CA V Pattabhi Ram, a well-known author, speaker and teacher. Sridhar Ganesh, leadership coach, Subha Lakshmi Narasimhan, Founder Director of SLN Brand Studio, Haresh Advani, Leadership and communication expert were among the panellists.

The Chief Guest for the event was Nasser Said al Lamki, General Manager and Chief Audit Executive in Bank Nizwa. Guest of Honor was CA Devaraj Reddy, Past President of ICAI and the keynote speaker was Dr Ankita Singh, Senior Vice President and Global Head HR in CIGNEX Datamatics.

The outgoing Chairperson CA Ramananda Prabhu presented the annual report highlighting various activities of the chapter during the last year. Despite the limitations imposed by the pandemic, the chapter conducted various online events for the members and Omani professionals. Events conducted include an online international conference, invest in Oman webinar, a career guidance event for Indian school students and various celebrations including Oman National day.

The Chapter has also received the best overseas chapter award during the year 2020. He thanked The College of Banking and Financial Studies for being the official sponsor for the ICAI Muscat Chapter; and also the past Chairmen of the Chapter and the parent Institute of Chartered Accountants of India; for their continued support and guidance.

The newly-elected team for the year 2021 – 2021 will be led by CA Raviprakash Deora (Chairman), CA Sajeev Surendran (Vice-Chairman), CA Jim Joseph Itty (Secretary) and CA Shilpa Pawani(Treasurer). The Managing Committee also include CA Sangeeta Suresh Kumar (Chairperson CPE Committee), CA Digan Pandya (Chairman - Membership Committee) and CA Unmesh Bhome (Chairman- Compliance and Legal).

The Chairman CA Ravi Deora expressed his thanks to the past committee and sub-committees and pledged to continue the activities of the chapter at the same pace with his committed team. He also rolled out a strategic plan for the next 3 years focusing on the professional development of members and students.

CA Ravi also highlighted that Chapter is determined to continue its efforts to support the establishment of an Accounting Professional Body in Oman which aims at developing Omani professionals to support Oman economic growth and partner in the progress of Oman’s nation-building.

The new team also had an online interaction with Indian Ambassador Munu Mahawar and expressed the commitment to support the efforts of the Embassy in the fight against COVID.

ICAI-Muscat Chapter is set up under the Memorandum of Understanding between The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), New Delhi and The College of Banking and Financial Studies, Sultanate of Oman and has the objective of providing Continuing Professional Education to the members of the ICAI and Omani finance professionals. The chapter was established in 2008 and has over 400 members. Muscat Chapter also coordinates activities in Salalah and Sohar through its sub-committees.
