Mercury rises in Oman due to northwest winds
Al Mudhaibi station in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate recorded the highest temperature

Muscat: Al Mudhaibi station in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate recorded the highest temperature in Oman at 50 degrees Celsius on Monday, June 14, 2021.

Oman Meteorology said in a statement that Al Mudhaibi station has recorded 50 degrees Celsius so far while Fahud, Qarn Al Alam, Ibri, Ibra, Izki and Al Qabil stations have recorded 48 degrees Celsius.

An Omani meteorological official explained the reasons for a noticeable rise in temperatures: "This is due to the extreme temperatures that reached the end of forties and beginning of fifties in the desert areas on Sunday and it will continue for the next two days due to the activity of the northwest winds, which cause dust to rise on the desert and open areas, which led to an increase in temperatures in the governorates of Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Buraimi, Al Wusta and North Al Sharqiyah."

“The wind coming from the desert areas of the Arabian Peninsula is a mass of hot and dry winds, which is the reason for the rise in temperatures, and heat waves usually form at this period of each year,” he added
