Muscat: The total number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) registered in the Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development till the end of May 2021 stood at 53,166, compared to 44,197 in May 2020, an increase of 20.3 per cent, according to the data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The Governorate of Muscat witnessed an increase of 20.3 per cent, followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah which saw an increase of 20.4 per cent, NCSI latest statistics reveal.
An increase was also marked in the number of SMEs in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah by 18.5 per cent, the Governorate of Dhofar by 19.3 per cent, the Governorate of South Al Batinah by 23.6 per cent, the Governorate of North Al Sharqiyah by 17.5 per cent, the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah by 25.5 per cent, the Governorate of Al Dhahira by 14.7 per cent, the Governorate of Al-Buraimi by 22.3 per cent, the Governorate of Al-Wusta by 39 per cent and the Governorate of Musandam by 17.3 per cent.
The number of SMEs registered in the Governorate of Muscat stood at 17,927 at the end of May 2021, followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah with 8,411, the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah with 6,616, the Governorate of Dhofar with 4,439, the Governorate of South Al Batinah with 4,049, the Governorate of North Al Sharqiyah with 3,527, the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah with 3,158, the Governorate of Al Dhahira with 3,016 and the Governorate of Al Buraimi with 1,135 registered SMEs.
The number of SMEs registered in the Governorate of Al Wusta stood at 691 and the Governorate of Musandam 197, which was the lowest among governorates registered in May 2021.
