Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Shibu joins Al Hayat International Hospital

Muscat: Locally-owned and operated Al Hayat International Hospital has announced the appointment of Dr Shibu Thankappan as its Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon.

Treatments and services offered at Al Hayat Orthopedics Department are: arthroscopy of the knee, knee replacement, shoulder and elbow disorders, foot and ankle care, hand and wrist, repair of hand tendon, trigger finger, spine scoliosis spine back and neck pain, repair of tendon in the knee and lower leg, hip replacement and fractures, limb deformity and reconstruction, sports trauma, bunion operations, ganglion removal, etc.

Dr Shibu holds special interests in doing all types of simple and complex fractures of bones, and has been trained in handling cases of failures of internal fixation of fractures, non-union of fractures, arthroscopy of knee, shoulder impingement syndrome, rotator cuff Tears, etc.

Dr Shibu did his MBBS and D-Ortho from India’s Government Medical College, Trivandrum in Kerala. Dr. Shibu’s research for his National Board of Examinations was “Use of Dynamic Wrist Fixators (CREC) for the Management of Comminuted Intra-articular Fractures of the Lower end of Radius”.

His thesis on 30 cases over a period of three years was accepted by the National Board of Examinations. His rigorous training in Orthopaedics equipped him well to handle almost all kinds of Orthopaedic cases which he exemplified in the last 23 years of orthopedic practice.

Starting his medical career about 27 years ago, Dr. Shibu has been associated with renowned large public and private sector hospitals in various positions; starting as General Practitioner, Post-Operative Ward in-charge, Registrar in Neurosurgery, Lecturer and consultant in orthopedic surgery in India and Oman.

In Oman, Dr Shibu started his career as the National Team Doctor for the Oman Football Team, Oman Football Association in 2003. He joined the public sector soon, and served the nation at Nizwa Hospital until 2010.
