BP Oman, Outward Bound Oman conclude programme to develop young Omani talent

Muscat: In partnership with BP Oman, Outward Bound Oman, a not-for-profit educational training provider, has concluded the ‘Discovery Course’ programme with a closing ceremony held under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Faher bin Fatik Al Said.

The ceremony was also attended by Bill Murray, British Ambassador in Oman and Eng. Yousuf Al Ojaili, President of BP Oman. The course was a one-day course in the new Outward Bound Oman Muscat Training Centre in Al Khoudh.

The course aimed to equip 320 young Omanis, both females and males, from the ages of 13 to 15 with critical skills that enable self-confidence and development using a series of exciting activities.  

Shamsa Al-Rawahi, BP Oman Social Investment Manager, commented, “We believe our youth are gifted with great talents, that we can nurture and grow. Our partnership with Outward Bound Oman began in 2014 and grew over the years to develop the skills and talent of 1,832 young Omanis through 68 various self-development related courses targeting different groups.”

Mark Evans, Executive Director of Outward Bound Oman, further added: “Oman was the first country in the Arabic speaking world to embrace the Outward Bound style of learning, and what a great success it has been in helping develop the talent of nearly 17,000 people. Many of them are supported by BP Oman’s visionary social investment programme. With our third national training centre due to open next month, we will gain the capacity to train and develop further talent. We look forward to continuing our strong partnership with bp Oman in the coming years to support His Majesty’s vision to prepare young Omani people to enter the workplace.”

Outward Bound Oman was first established in the UK in 1941 and now operates in 33 countries around the world with Oman being the first Arabic speaking nation to set up an Outward-Bound operation. Since its establishment in 2009, it has delivered training for nearly 17,000 individuals, helping them become more confident and capable individuals in society.
