CPA will now use AI to monitor markets in Oman
Consumer Protection Authority employs technology and artificial intelligence to monitor markets in Oman.

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority has employed technology and artificial intelligence to monitor the markets in the Sultanate of Oman.

"The Consumer Protection Authority launches an initiative to employ technology and artificial intelligence to monitor the markets of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman through a consensus system between consumers, wholesalers and retailers in various consumer sectors," Oman News Agency (ONA) said in a statement.

Hamoud bin Said Al Jabri, Director General of Consumer Services and Market Monitoring at the Consumer Protection Authority, said that the initiative will facilitate market control and save time and effort, adding that the number of complaints received by the Authority since its establishment in 2011 until the third quarter of this year amounted to 96,042.

Al Jabri stated that the total amount recovered was OMR 16,237,562 million during the same period and the fines imposed by the authority amounted to OMR 3,517,957 million during the period from January 2012 to June 2021.

"The number of violations recorded by the authority since its establishment until the third quarter of this year and referred to the Public Prosecution for decision amounted to 53,882 violations," Al Jabri added.
