Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Asa’ad bin Tariq Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, will patronise on Monday the operation ceremony of OQ Group’s OMR2.7 billion Liwa Plastic Industries Complex, which will be held at Sohar Industrial Port.

The completion of the complex comes within the government's plans to diversify sources of income and enhance manufacturing industries as a key investment project in the petrochemical sector aimed at maximising the value of natural resources in the Sultanate of Oman.

The complex consists of four packages, among which the second, third and fourth packages are being commercially operated. Integrated commercial operation of the first package is underway. The local added value of the project during its construction period amounted to approximately OMR578 million invested in local markets.

The project aims to strengthen the industries sector by producing 838,000 tonnes of polyethylene per year, and about 300,000 tonnes polypropylene annually, which will raise the country’s per annum production of the two materials to 1.4 million tonnes.
