Muscat: Ooredoo is set to start the trial of an innovative new telecommunications technology that addresses the anticipated surge in demand for data for video streaming, online gaming, social media and more across Oman, supported by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).
The first of its kind in the region, the trial will test Microwave Solutions in E-Band (80 Ghz) technology, or microwave backhauling, across Ooredoo’s recently completed nationwide fibre backbone, providing the Gigabit capacity to deliver unparalleled premium speeds and unrivalled superior quality to fast increasing numbers of data hungry customers.
Ooredoo will collaborate with internationally renowned telecommunications giant Ericsson on this exciting project, sharing expertise and technical know-how to demonstrate the enormous advantages and possibilities of the innovative system to operators in the Gulf and beyond.
“Ooredoo is constantly responding to changes in customer needs and providing them with the products, services and offers they want, through both mobile and fixed offerings,” said Wolfgang Wemhoff, Chief Technology Officer at Ooredoo Oman.
