Team Novo Nordisk joins for the first appearance with professional cyclists at the Tour of Oman

The Novo Nordisk team consisting of diabetic and professional cyclists, has joined Tour Oman which is hosted by the Sultanate in collaboration with the National Team of Oman, UCI and in which hundreds of professional cyclists from around the world participate.

Commenting on the participation, Dr Noor Al Busaidi - Director of National Diabetes & Endocrinology Centre in Oman, said: “Living with diabetes, as challenging as it may be, still has a very bright side as we see here today. Team Novo Nordisk of seven professional cyclists who are affected by Type I Diabetes Mellitus competing in the Tour  Oman clearly demonstrates a model on how youth living with diabetes can optimise their lives and well-being and be in good control of their condition. Nevertheless, such achievement would not have been possible without various support from governments, private enterprises, and society. Each partner contributed to this achievement and success.”

“As president of Oman Diabetes Association and a health care provider, I would like to call on our strategic partner, the Ministry of Health and all other local stakeholders to continue to work together to enhance care and support Omanis living with diabetes, especially children and youth. From what we see today, I have a strong belief that a day will come when we will have a diabetic champion from Sultanate of Oman.” elaborated Dr Noor Al Busaidi.

“The Tour of Oman is a very important race for us, and we are honoured to be making our first appearance here and to have the opportunity to help drive change in diabetes at such a big event,” said Vassili Davidenko Team Novo Nordisk General Manager. “It’s been a while since we raced in the Middle East, but we always have a great experience racing in this part of the world. It’s a perfect way to start the season in the sunshine and I’m sure that this time will be no different.”

“The Tour of Oman is a beautiful race to start the season,” concluded Team Novo Nordisk captain Charles Planet. “And an important one, not only for us but for all our supporters who help us inspire, educate and empower everyone affected by diabetes around the world. We have an important responsibility to those people and performing well in races like the Tour of Oman is the best way we can get our message across.”
“It is a pleasure that Team Novo Nordisk have selected Oman as a part of their annual tour, as this will be the 1st time to include a Gulf Cluster country in such a unique experience to showcase raising awareness on diabetes differently,” said Venkat Kalyan P K - VP & GM of Novo Nordisk Gulf Cluster.
