Muscat: The Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company has published a clarification about the fees for connecting water services.

“The Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company has followed up what was circulated in some media about the fees for connecting water services, and the company would like to confirm:

A. These fees have been introduced since 2019 based on many requests from a large segment of citizens with the aim of accelerating the delivery of drinking water service to networks instead of supplying schemes that are not covered by networks through water tanks.

B. The Public Water Authority (formerly) studied the claims of accelerating the pace of network implementation according to the subscribers desire, as the average cost of implementing distribution networks was calculated only, taking into account the costs associated with transmission networks, collection tanks and other costs.

C. Some categories have been excluded, including the social security category, which was exempt from the application of fees, in addition to the fee installments for all categories over a period of seventy months at a rate of ten riyals per month.

"It should be noted that the Oman Water and Wastewater Services Company is reviewing the regulation for providing drinking water services in light of the merger of the water and wastewater sectors to ensure that all observations received during the last period are taken into account and what serves that. The interest and satisfaction of subscribers, provided that the new regulation is implemented during the last quarter of this year and after obtaining approvals from the competent authorities," the company said.
