Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) has temporarily closed a commercial establishment working in the field of manpower recruitment in the Wilayat of Sohar for failing to provide services to consumers in a proper manner.
The Authority said in a statement: "The Directorate General of Consumer Protection in North Al Batinah Governorate temporarily closed one of the commercial establishments working in the field of manpower recruitment, for violating Article No 37 of the Consumer Protection Law issued by Royal Decree No. (66/2014)."
The directorate received a number of complaints stating that the institution has not fulfilled the agreements concluded between it and the consumers, represented in the non-refunding of the amounts in the event of the worker’s refusal to work, and the recruitment of workers who refuse to work, or some of them have diseases.
This is In addition to the delay in changing the worker’s sponsor from one consumer to another, and not complying with some contracts concluded on time. The delay extended for years for some of them.
The Directorate took the necessary legal measures and after exhausting all solutions, the file was transferred to the competent authorities, supported by statistics clarifying the merits of all cases after it was found that the institution was procrastinating in responding to those complaints. As a result, it was decided to close the institution temporarily until the cases submitted are decided upon, based on Article (37).
