Muscat: Oman has helped in the release of two British nationals who were held in Iran, following requests from the UK to provide assistance.

Oman News Agency reported that the authorities in Oman, in collaboration with their counterparts from the UK and Iran, helped in the release of two British citizens, who arrived in Muscat in preparation for their return to the UK.

The two were brought to Muscat in compliance with the Royal orders of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, and as part of Oman’s continuing endeavours to help brotherly and sisterly countries.

ONA added that British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss appreciated the efforts of Oman in helping the release of two detainees.

She had met with Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Oman’s Foreign Minister, to secure diplomatic assistance towards releasing the detainees.

The Foreign Ministry of Oman identified the two women as Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori.
“Nazanin and Anoosheh have arrived safely in Oman,” said the Foreign Minister in a tweet.

“Sincere thanks for the hard work and good faith in Tehran and London that made this possible. Soon they will be with their loved ones at home. We hope this result will bring further progress in the dialogue between the parties.”
