Muscat may witness 60mm of rainfall from Sunday

Muscat: A depression is forming in the northeast of the Arabian Sea and is currently centered near the Indian coasts (Gujarat), with the possibility of it developing into a tropical depression that will move towards the west to the coasts of the Sea of Oman during the next two days.

The Civil Aviation Authority issued the report No. (1) on the weather situation in the Arabian Sea, said: “The latest satellite images and analyzes of the Latest analysis of National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center the forming of tropical depression formation over North-East of Arabian Sea nearby coasts of Gujarat, The wind speed around the center is estimated at less than 17 knots, and forecasts indicate the possibility of its development during this night and tomorrow morning into a tropical depression as it moves west towards the coast of the Sea of Oman during the next two days, where the effects are likely to begin gradually from the morning of Sunday, July 17, 2022. It will continue for several days.

Saturday 16 July 2022:

The spread of medium and high clouds over most of the Sultanate of Oman, with chances of scattered rain on the Al Hajar Mountains and neighboring areas.

Sunday 17 July 2022:

The beginning of the impact of the depression on the Sultanate of Oman with the entry of convective rain clouds in the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, southern Governorate of Muscat and separate parts of Al Wusta Governorate, with rainfall of varying intensity, ranging between 20 and 60 mm.

Expected effect:

- Rainfall of varying intensity, ranging between 20 and 60 mm, leads to the flow of valleys and reefs.

- Wind ranging from 15 to 30 knots (30 km/h/60 km/h).

- Reduced horizontal visibility during thunderstorms.

The sea will be rough with waves on the coasts of the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea, with a maximum height of four meters.

Chances of sea water extending over some low-lying coastal parts.

Monday, July 18, 2022:

The impact range of the tropical depression extends to the governorates of Muscat, North Al Sharqiyah, South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah and Musandam, with rainfall of varying intensity, ranging between 30 and 80 mm.

Expected effect:

- With rainfall of varying intensity, ranging between 30 and 80 mm, it leads to the flow of valleys and reefs.

-Wind ranging from 20 to 40 knots (40 km/h/80 km/h).

- Reduced horizontal visibility during thunderstorms.

-The sea will be rough with waves on the coasts of the Sea of Oman and the Arabian Sea, with a maximum height of four meters.

- Chances of sea water extending over some low-lying coastal parts.

The Civil Aviation Authority calls upon everyone to take precautions and not to take risks by crossing valleys, and to be cautious when going the seas during this period. It also calls on everyone to follow up on its weather bulletins.
