Muscat: The International Swimming Championship will be held for the first time in the Sultanate of Oman during March 10-11, 2023, in the swimming pool at the Sultan Qaboos Complex. Participants in the championship will include swimmers from the United Arab Emirates and India.
The Oman Swimming Association, in its meeting chaired by Taha bin Sulaiman Al-Kushari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association, approved several programmes and plans for the first half of 2023. The plans include activities and programmes for competitions and national teams.
Furthermore, the association has revealed that it has signed a contract with Russian coach Sargei Shchershurov to be the technical director of the national swimming teams. Shchershurov worked for 11 years as a general coach at the "Sambo 70" sports and training center in Moscow. One of his most important tasks will be to select talented swimmers, and to prepare development and follow-up programmes for the goal of achieving the standards of the national Russian team.
The Russian coach was contracted after being selected and chosen from among the many names or CVs that were received by the association, and by setting clear criteria within the framework of accumulated expertise and previous experiences.
The Federation approved the activity of the national teams during the last period and discussed the quarterly plan submitted by the technical staff. All activities that were included were approved, represented by the establishment of a preparatory camp for two weeks in the sports complex in Buraimi, followed by a measurement day for the national teams to stand on the digital and technical level, during the first period of the annual preparation programme.
In addition, the national team has been approved to participate in the first international swim meet, which will be an opportunity to compete among high-level international swimmers.
The Board of Directors of the Oman Swimming Association decided to organise the Association Cup for swimming on March 3, 2023 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Baushar. The contest will see the participation of more than 250 swimmers, representing 12 clubs that came first in the various governorate championships held in 2022.
The association chose to hold the 15th Oman Open Water Swimming Championship in the Wilayat of Duqm in Al Wusta Governorate on May 5, 2023, which the association will attend as one of the important championships in open water.
The Oman Swimming Association decided to hold the annual general assembly meeting on March 22, 2023. During the assembly, the vision and future agenda of the federation and its programmes for activities, events, competitions and tournaments that will be held locally will be reviewed, as well as participation in international events, with the approval of administrative and financial reports for the year 2022.
