Muscat: Oman Environmental Services Holding Company 'be'ah' has proudly announced its support for the upcoming Oman Sustainability Week 2023 as a strategic sponsor. This event, hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center (OCEC), will take place from March 12-16 and will showcase the nation's commitment to sustainability and the environment.
Oman Sustainability Week serves as a shining example of the Sultanate's focus on sustainable development goals and its efforts to promote a harmonious balance between economic, social, and environmental progress. The event aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals and offers a platform to showcase innovative initiatives and programs aimed at promoting sustainability. be'ah's support of this important event underscores the company's commitment to supporting the Sultanate's goals for sustainability and advancing the nation's overall development.
It is expected that the week will witness wide participation from local and international entities and experts and those interested in sustainability issues. Co-located at the event, the International Sustainability, Resources, and Technology Conference (ISRTC) is organised by be'ah and programmed by Economist Impact. The conference, which will take place on the 13th and 14th of March, is a crucial platform for experts and those interested in sustainability to exchange knowledge, discuss, and present the best practices and developments to increase awareness of the concept and goals of sustainability.
The conference will feature the participation of over 50 local and international speakers and 450 representatives from various public and private organizations. It will also include a number of interactive panel discussions and hands-on workshops covering a broad spectrum of topics centered on sustainability, including advancements towards a greener future, digital advancements in green finance, implementing a circular economy, and effectively managing sustainable resources.

There is no doubt that the activities of the Oman Sustainability Week will contribute to a fundamental change in supporting the Sultanate's efforts to adopt sustainable practices."
“We are also proud to announce the winners of the second edition of the Oman Sustainability Award, which was established by be’ah in collaboration with the Center for Sustainability and Excellence, based in the United States, and designed to complement the activities of "Oman Sustainability Week,” he noted further.
At OSW, be’ah will showcase a number of its innovative ventures geared at producing clean energy. One such initiative is the biogas plants which seek to generate economic value from organic waste and compost. be’ah will also highlight the unique features of its Waste-to-Energy Plant project with Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) located adjacent to the Barka Landfill. Apart from supporting energy diversification and carbon footprint reduction goals, the project will also help save the land of future landfills, attract foreign investments and generate indirect job opportunities in the local market. Furthermore, it aims to explore and develop projects in waste management, treatment and safe disposal as well as other related services that contribute to the Sultanate’s goal of attaining net-zero emissions by 2050.
Through the years, be’ah has been consistent in its efforts to raise awareness about sustainability. Its Green School Project and Mobile Awareness Unit intend to educate students, teachers and the local community on environmental issues, circular economy and sustainability. Furthermore, be'ah supports local educational institutions and initiatives that aim to raise awareness about sustainability among the younger generation in Oman.
The company also launched an initiative for the collection of used PET bottles. The initiative contributed to instilling the culture of recycling and simultaneously helped in the recovery of valuable materials and reduction in the amount of waste produced. In addition, the company’s unique programs have been empowering SMEs and entrepreneurs with new methods of achieving environmental goals while helping them integrate sustainability into their operations.
