Muscat: Thunderstorms accompanied by winds and hail have occurred in most of the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman today, Wednesday, from noon to evening.
Today, varying rains fell in the governorates of South and North Al Sharqiyah, as well as in parts of North and South Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliya and Muscat governorates ranging from heavy to medium. This led to the flow of a number of valleys and reefs.
Among the valleys that experienced flow today are Wadi Al Sarmi and Wadi Shafan in the Wilayat of Al Khaburah, Wadi Abaya in the Wilayat of Qurayyat, Wadi Al Qara’a in the Wilayat of Al Qabil, Wadi Muharram in the Wilayat of Samail, Wadi Bani Kharus in the Wilayat of Al Awabi, Wadi Bani Awf, Wadi Bani Ghafir and Wadi Al Sahtan in the Wilayat of Rustaq, Wadi Tiwi in the Wilayat of Sur and Wadi Al Jizzi in the Wilayat of Sohar.
Rains descended abundantly at the Al Jabal Al Sharqi falls in the Wilayat of Al-Hamra and the falls of Wadi Al-Rahba in the Wilayat of Nizwa in the Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate. This led to rocks falling from the top of the peaks to the street adjacent to them, additionally leading to road blockage. No damage to vehicles or injury was recorded.
Heavy rains also fell with heavy hail and strong thunderbolts. Areas affected include Al-Arja in Wadi Al-Jizzi, Al-Souq in the Wilayat of Qurayyat, Wadi Bani Ghafir in the Wilayat of Rustaq, Al-Sakhiyat in the Wilayat of Al-Khabourah, Wadi Al-Hawasneh in the Wilayat of Al-Khabourah, Al-Jabal Al-Akhdar, Wadi Al-Halti in the Wilayat of Sohar and the Wilayats of Nizwa, Izki and Ibri.
Lightning also led to the ignition of electricity poles in the Wilayat of Al-Kamil wal’Wafi in the Governorate of South Al-Sharqiyah, causing a lightning strike next to a citizen while he was filming the rain without injuring him. Lightning struck a number of houses, trees and open places without any injuries recorded in some governorates, especially South and North Al Sharqiyah governorates.
