Omani Cultural Day begins in Jordan

Amman: The events of Omani cultural days kicked off in Amman on Sunday.

The function has been organised by Omani Studies Units at Al Bait University in coordination with the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs in the Sultanate of Oman.

The cultural days highlight the Omani role in serving the Islamic and Arabic language with the participation of a number of academicians and researchers from Oman and Jordan, poets and singers from both the countries.

Abdul Rahman bin Ahmed Al Khalili, Director of Committees and Foreign Relations Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs and member of the Council of Omani Studies Unit, said: “Omani civilization is wide and deeply rooted in human history so it cannot be discussed in days or weeks. The unit today is only highlighting some aspects and encouraging elites, researchers and people of Jordanian society to visit the Sultanate of Oman and get acquainted with its features and civilization and share the bond between the brotherly people.”

Dr. Mohamed Al Darobi, head of the executive committee of the Omani Studies Unit said that since the establishment of the unit at Al Bait University, there has been  an increase in cultural cohesion between Jordan and Oman.

“The unit has organised 14 conferences to date internationally, published works, most of which are among the university’s publications, in more than 40 volumes."

The unit has also organised more than 100 daily activities such as lectures, seminars, competitions, and exhibitions. The number of participants in the scientific activities of the unit rose by over 80 from more than 20 countries worldwide.

The cultural days are accompanied by an exhibition consisting of a number of corners, including the corner for Omani Quran in Braille, a corner for Omani books, a corner for Omani manuscripts, another for making Omani Halwa a corner of adventure tourism in the Sultanate of Oman
