MUSCAT: The Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) launched various activities on the Omani Day of Physical Activity, which was organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, on Monday at Al Sahwa Park.
Dr. Hilal Ali al Sabti, Minister of Health, and other dignitaries were briefed on the ORSC plans and the forthcoming events beside the importance of AirBadminton and its advantages.
ORSC held an exhibition and demonstration of AirBadminton during the event.
AirBadminton is an ambitious new development project of the world governing body, BWF, designed to create opportunities for people of all ages and ability to play badminton on hard, grass and sand surfaces in parks, gardens, streets, playgrounds and beaches around the world.
Khalid Ali al Sulaimani, ORSC member said: “By participating in the Omani Day of Physical Activity we got an opportunity to show the activities of racket sports which fit for all the community categories. Racket sports support to raise the physical activity level and the health of the individuals. The ORSC will work hard towards providing a varied range of activities and it will include a mix of competitive events for the professionals and fun activities to assist people’s developing their physical activity and health care.”
It may be mentioned that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth announced the formation of ORSC in July.
The committee is headed by Dr. Abdul Rahim al Daroushi while Tahir Al Barwani is the general secretary. Besides Al Sulaimani, the other members as Ruqaya Al Omairi and Amal Al Mahrouqi. The committee is responsible for managing badminton and squash sports in Oman.
