Muscat: The Environment Authority has planted more than 10,000 trees in the Khor Najd area in the Wilayat of Khasab, Musandam Governorate.
The Environment Department in Musandam Governorate carried out a campaign to plant 10,100 saplings, with support from Sohar Aluminum, as part of the national initiative to plant 10 million trees, in the Khor Najd area in the Wilayat of Khasab.
The campaign aims to increase and improve vegetation cover in pastoral and degraded natural areas and raise awareness of the importance of increasing green areas, in addition to its benefits to the environment and society and the possibility of economically benefiting some plant species.
Muslim bin Mubarak Al Mahri, Director of the Environment Department in Musandam Governorate, said: " This initiative comes as an emphasis on the importance of preserving vegetation, increasing the green area, and combating desertification through agriculture, as it is of vital importance and maintains the balance of the ecosystem."
Al Mahri added that this initiative coincides with Tree Day, which falls on October 31 of each year, indicating that seedlings of Sidr and Ghaf trees were planted to confirm the Omani privacy in dealing with and preserving the environment and highlighting the role of Omani society in all its categories and segments in preserving the environment and its components.
