Muscat: Eng. Said Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology affirmed that the Ministry will put the contents of His Majesty the Sultan's speech into practice by accelerating programmes supporting the national Digital Economy Programme (NDP).
The NDP aims to build and develop a thriving digital economy in the Sultanate of Oman.
Al Maawali told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the NDP has medium and long-term targets that cope with Oman Vision 2040 and in accordance with national governance standards.
The programme, the Minister added, targets establishing national industries in the digital economy, boosting in-country value (ICV) and offering sustainable and income-generating opportunities, as well as striking strategic partnership with private sector institutions.
Al Maawali reiterated that Oman is keeping pace with global developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) through several projects. In this area, Oman has also updated policies and legislations to ensure effective utilisation of AI and advanced technologies.
Regarding net zero emissions, the Minister underscored that the Ministry will work with partners to double efforts in implementing its programme aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
