Royal Oman Police amends provisions of Traffic Laws in Oman

Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) issued Resolution No. 61/2024 on Sunday, amending some provisions of the executive regulations of the Traffic Law.

Article One: The attached amendments shall be made to the executive regulations of the aforementioned Traffic Law:

The text of Article (8) and Paragraphs 2 and 5 of Article (39) of the executive regulations of the aforementioned Traffic Law shall be replaced by the following texts :

Article (8) on the validity period of the vehicle operating license:
The validity of vehicle operating license is valid for one year from the date of registration or renewal, and maybe for a longer period based on the owner’s request, provided that the vehicle is covered by insurance unless it is decided to inspect it annually in accordance with the provisions of Article (39) of these regulations. A license to operate an agricultural tractor is excluded from the period requirement

The previous text of Article 8 read: “The vehicle operating license is valid for one year from the date of registration or renewal, and may be for a period of two years for government vehicles, vehicles of diplomatic and consular bodies, and organisations accredited to the Sultanate of Oman unless it is decided to inspect them annually in accordance with the provisions of Article (39) of this law.”  An agricultural tractor operating license is excluded from the period requirement.”


Article (2, 5/39) on Technical inspection rules:

The following vehicles are subject to technical inspection upon registration and renewal of the vehicle operating license:

A- Commercial vehicles of all types, except for small trucks (pick-ups) and light passenger vehicles that have been manufactured for less than ten years and are not used for advertising purposes.

B- Heavy government vehicles and equipment.

C- Taxis of all types and driving school cars.

D- Buses of various types.

E- Cars and bicycles that were manufactured for (10) years or more.

F- Limited-use vehicles and small trucks (pick-ups) manufactured for (10) years or more.

The previous text of Paragraph 2 read: “The following vehicles are subject to technical examination upon registration and upon renewal of the vehicle operating license:

A- Commercial vehicles of all types, except for light vehicles, which are not used for advertising purposes.

B- Heavy government vehicles and equipment.

C- Taxis of all types and driving school cars.

D- Buses of various types, and small trucks (pick-ups).

E- Cars and bicycles manufactured ten years ago or more.”

New text of paragraph 5:  "Vehicles are subject to technical inspection in cases of changing or replacing their engine, body, colour, or any essential part."

Previous text, paragraph 5: “Vehicles are subject to technical inspection in cases of changing or replacing their engine, body, or any essential part.”

Article Two of the decision said that everything that contravenes the attached amendments or conflicts with their provisions shall be repealed.
