Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman emphasised the need to strengthen international partnerships to support Africa's development agenda during the second regular session of the UNICEF Executive Board.
In a joint statement delivered by Shanoona bint Salem Al Habsi, Oman’s representative on the UNICEF Executive Board, the Sultanate praised UNICEF's strategy to back "Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want" and its implementation plan for the second decade (2024-2033). Al Habsi also lauded efforts to promote "Africa's Agenda for Children 2040" and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child.
Al Habsi highlighted that the strategy represents a significant step in fostering partnerships between governments, civil society, and the private sector to create sustainable change in the lives of African children.
She called on the international community to take responsibility for supporting Africa, noting the need for global cooperation to address the continent’s historical challenges. With Africa’s large youth population, she said, the continent is a natural partner for UNICEF.
Al Habsi also commended African nations for their progress in improving healthcare, empowering women, and protecting children from violence. She concluded by underscoring the need for continued support for Africa’s children, stating, “We must not fail to realize their aspirations.”
