Salalah: The Second International Conference on Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, organised by the Directorate General of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate and the Omani Society for Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, came out with a number of recommendations aimed at enhancing healthcare for kidney patients and increasing community awareness about prevention and treatment.

The conference, which concluded on Saturday, recommended the establishment of an international and regional cooperation network that brings together researchers and practitioners in the field of kidney diseases and transplantation to exchange expertise and knowledge, improve therapeutic innovations, develop and update health policies related to early detection of kidney diseases and provide appropriate treatment, support government efforts to implement national programmes to combat kidney failure within the framework of Oman Vision 2040, and expand kidney transplant programmes in the Sultanate of Oman by facilitating cooperation with global organ transplant centres.

The three-day conference in Salalah called for launching awareness campaigns targeting the community to increase knowledge about preventing kidney diseases, through television programmes, social media and community workshops, and to enhance the training and continuous development of medical personnel in the Sultanate of Oman in the field of kidney diseases and transplantation, in addition to encouraging the use of modern technologies, such as artificial intelligence and advanced medical technology to improve diagnosis and treatment methods for kidney failure patients.

The conference activities included the presentation of a set of working papers and scientific lectures that covered several topics, including pediatric nephrology, exploring congenital solitary kidneys and their secrets, in addition to defining dominant tubulointerstitial kidney disease, discussing developments in glomerulonephritis diseases and the role of biomarkers in its management, as well as reviewing research on atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome.
