Business prospects in beekeeping explored in Oman

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, is currently hosting the 3rdinternational Bee Exhibition and conference “Africa Bee Expo2024”.

As many as 37 countries are taking part in the event, which aims to develop the field of beekeeping and open up business prospects for companies and individuals, particularly the small and medium enterprises.

The opening ceremony was held on Wednesday under the patronage of Dr. Saud Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.

The conference seeks to exchange scientific, technological and cultural expertise at the global level and upgrade the beekeeper’s professional and commercial capacity such as exporting and entering global markets, attracting investors in the agricultural field and converting industries, in addition to giving added value to hive products and opening up horizons for tourism and alternative medicine with internationally approved hive products.

The four-day event sees the participation of experts, researchers and specialists from various academic and research institutions, beekeepers, a number of regional and international organisations and private sector companies in the field of bees and honey production and manufacturing, such as the Arab Beekeepers Union, the Arab Beekeeping Association, the European Bee Organization, the Al Baha Association in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the International Federation of Beekeepers’ Associations.

Activities of the conference include many working papers on various topics, such as the preservation of the local honey bee breed and the Safety and quality of honey based on Gulf specifications.
