Muscat: The Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises Development (ASMED) today organised a dialogue session in Muscat to discuss means of enhancing investments by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in special economic zones and free zones.
The session was aimed at encouraging entrepreneurs to present innovative ideas that contribute to the development of economic sectors, improving the attractiveness of the business environment and shaping policies of support for SMEs.
The session touched on extending support for SMEs through the facilitation of financing, fees and licenses required in economic zones.
As many as 545 SMEs operate in special economic zones and free zones where they practise 192 activities.
The dialogue session was attended by Dr. Ali Masoud Al Sunaidi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ), Halima Rashid Al Zar’ee, Chairperson of ASMED, and representatives of the parties concerned, including the Industrial Innovation Academy and the Development Bank.
