Youth National Sailing Squad places decided at Oman Sail’s Suhar Festival Ranking Race

 Muscat – Oman Sail’s youth Ranking Race wrapped up at the Suhar Festival with young sailors in Optimist, ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 categories treating visitors to a stunning display of sailing. Prizes were awarded for the top three in each race, as well as the best performing girls and juniors in the Optimist event.

Saud Talib Al Shaqsi won the Optimist overall with three wins from four races to finish four points ahead of Firas Haitham Al Nabhani in second. Abdulrahman Al Hadi was third, one point further back. The Optimist Girl’s category was won Hadeel Yousuf Al Mushaifri in 8th overall, ahead of Tarteel Zaid Al Hasani and Abeer Khalil Al Zakwani in third.

Mohammed Ziyad Al Qasmi finished 6th overall to win the Junior competition ahead of Habib Abdulaziz Al Haseni in 12th overall and Harib Mohsin Al Busaidi in 13th overall.

Abdulatif Ziyad Al Qasmi won the ILCA 4 category by posting four wins from six races. Faisal Hamed Al Adwi finished second with one win and two second places, just ahead of Saleh Ali Al Balushi who secured one win, one second place and two third placed finishes.

The ILCA 6 category was won by Al Mutasim Hamood Al Farsi with three wins from six races and never finishing outside of the top three. Ali Al Saadi finished second with two race wins and Elyas Bader Al Fadhli finished third after winning the final race of the event.

Hashim Al Rashdi, Head Coach Performance at Oman Sail and Team Leader, said, “This was a memorable event for our young sailors who put their training into practice and performed very well across all categories, while also sharing the sport with a new audience. The rankings from this event will help decide future places in the national sailing squad for regional and international regattas and it is clear from the performances this weekend that we have great depth of talent and several highly promising sailors at all age groups.”

The Suhar Festival ranking race was organised by Oman Sail under the authority of the Oman Maritime Sports Committee as part of the annual Suhar Festival.
