Oman celebrates GCC Wildlife Day

Muscat: Represented by the Environment Authority (EA), the Sultanate of Oman today celebrated the GCC Wildlife Day under the slogan "Sustainable Marine Wildlife".

The celebration of the GCC Wildlife Day, which falls on 30 December every year, highlights the efforts of GCC states to preserve biodiversity and enhance the awareness of citizens and residents about the significance of wildlife conservation.

The event also seeks to underline the Convention on the Conservation of Wildlife and its Natural Habitats and the preservation of ecosystems and endangered wildlife species that are exposed to extinction.

The Environment Authority has implemented a number of initiatives, projects and conducted research surveys and field studies related to the assessment of biodiversity, the enactment and updating of related laws and the intensification of operations to minimize the risks posed to endangered organisms in the Sultanate of Oman.

The EA lays emphasis on preserving the basic components of wildlife and safeguarding their biodiversity and sustainability. Action in this context includes the tasks undertaken through the “National Biodiversity Survey Project”, the “Marine Mammal Species Survey Project” and the “National Campaign to Combat Invasive Birds”.
