Expedition aims to strengthen Oman-UK ties

Muscat: Omani youth and British enthusiasts have embarked on an exploratory expedition “Oman: Jewel of Arabia,” which commenced from Al-Swaih Beach in the Wilayat of Jalan Bani Bu Ali, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.

The journey will traverse through the North Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta Governorates, culminating in Dhofar Governorate over the course of 30 days.

This expedition aims to strengthen the historical ties between Oman and the United Kingdom, focusing on the cultural, natural, and tourism heritage of the Sultanate of Oman, while also raising global awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability issues.

The journey retraces the path of British explorer Bertram Thomas, one of the most notable British explorers, who made history as the first European to cross the Empty Quarter desert (Rub’ al Khali) in 1930-1931, accompanied by Omani guide Sheikh Saleh bin Kalut.

The “Oman: Jewel of Arabia” expedition not only celebrates this historic feat but also serves as a platform to promote Oman’s rich heritage and natural beauty, encouraging sustainable tourism and fostering stronger bilateral relations.
