Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology (MTCiT) held its 12th media meeting to review its 2025 implementation plan and achievements in 2024. During the meeting, His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud bin Saeed Al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications & Information Technology, confirmed that the proposed Muscat Metro project will start from Sultan Haitham City to Ruwi area.
According to the minister, the metro line will span over 50 km and include 36 stations. The Minister also announced that a detailed study of the Muscat Metro project will begin this year.
His Excellency highlighted that the logistics and communications and information technology (ICT) sectors contributed over 2 billion Omani Rials to the GDP, representing 8%. Investments in these sectors reached 2.5 billion Omani Rials by the end of 2024. Development project expenditures totaled 989 million Omani Rials, with 93% allocated to road networks. The number of change orders decreased by 42% compared to 2020.
Minister Al Mawali noted that the Sultanate of Oman advanced in several international indices related to transportation, communications, and ICT in 2024. Oman ranked 41st globally in the e-government development index, 45th in the government's AI readiness index, 50th in the network readiness index, achieved the first category in the global cybersecurity index, and is currently 4th in the world for aviation incident investigations.
