Sohar: Sohar Sulphur Fertilizers company, which specializes in the production of sulphur fertilizers, is undertaking efforts to support and enhance Omani exports. The company, which exports its products to more than 26 countries around the world, is headquartered in Madayn in the Wilayat of Sohar in North Al Batinah Governorate.
Sohar Sulphur Fertilizers was established in 2011 as a joint venture between OQ (a subsidiary of Oman Investment Authority) and Aqua Venture International, with the aim of developing an Omani hub for manufacturing and marketing sulphur fertilizers-bentonite and other micronutrients.
Abdulhakeem Ahmed Al Qasmi, Acting Managing Director at Sohar Sulphur Fertilizers, said that the firm’s plant is the first of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman that produces sulphur-bentonite fertilizers. He pointed out that the plant has an annual production capacity of up to 60,000 tons.
The company’s main product is 90 percent pure sulphur fertilizers, in addition to a set of micronutrient-based fertilizers like copper (Cu), manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), boron (Bo), iron (Fe), molybdenum (Mo), and magnesium (Mg).
Al Qasmi told Oman News Agency (ONA) that, by the end of 2024, the company expanded its product portfolio to cover 22 products.
He explained that the production unit utilizes advanced technology and a fully automated SCADA system. The company met 105% of its target production plan, with a production volume of 48,500 tonnes during 2024, said Al Qasmi, adding that the value of sales grew to OMR3.9 million (equivalent to $10.3 million).
Al Qasimi stressed that these achievements enhance the position of Sohar Sulphur Fertilizers as a strategic partner in supporting the agricultural sector, both locally and internationally.
He added that the company plays a central role in augmenting the Sultanate of Oman’s performance in providing sustainable agricultural solutions that contribute towards achieving global food security and in meeting the needs of growing agricultural markets.
Al Abri underscored the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation and development to ensure added value for Omani exports and consolidating Oman’s position as a global centre for the production of high-quality fertilizers that support sustainable agricultural development, thus affirming Oman’s ambitious vision for the national economy.
