Boeing 787 Dreamliner declares ‘MayDay’ after takeoff from Washington airport

Washington: It was a major scare for the United Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight from Washington DC to Munich when the aircraft suffered an engine failure shortly after take off.

The plane had climbed just 5,000 feet when the pilot declared ‘MayDay’ due to the engine failure and decided to return to the airport in Washington.

The engine failure prompted the flight crew to issue an emergency call and coordinate closely with air traffic controllers to ensure a safe return.

The aircraft remained in air for 2 hours and 38 minutes in to dump fuel before landing back.
