Proposal to establish a centre for artificial intelligence in Oman

Salalah: The fourth symposium on security and safety in vital facilities concluded on Saturday in Salalah, following three days of scientific presentations and real-world experiences.

More than 30 experts and participants from the Sultanate of Oman, Gulf and Arab countries, and Europe participated in the symposium, presenting working papers that covered all aspects of security and safety.

The symposium, which has become a prestigious annual scientific platform, brought together global and local minds under one roof, discussing specialised papers from leading think tanks and academic institutions.

The symposium not only discussed challenges but also proposed solutions and revealed future trends.

At the conclusion of the event, Brigadier General Eng. Saeed bin Suleiman Al-Asimi, Chairman of the symposium’s organising committee, said: “The scientific approach in this edition was bold and straightforward, and the papers presented were distinguished by their diversity in terms of topics and methodologies. The symposium achieved a qualitative leap, confirming its position as an important platform for exchanging ideas and experiences in security and safety.”

Al-Asimi added: “The fourth symposium demonstrated that the Sultanate of Oman is capable of hosting minds and experiences from around the world, and that it is prepared to become an advanced regional centre for facility safety, and perhaps also for artificial intelligence safety.”

The most important recommendations and proposals that emerged from the symposium:  Establishing a regional centre for artificial intelligence in the Sultanate of Oman, given the new security challenges posed by technology, promoting the concept of community resilience as the first line of defense, a national necessity and not an option, developing early warning systems in smart cities, and improving integration between relevant authorities, adopting advanced systems to protect documents and archives as the backbone of corporate governance and adopting virtual exercises and realistic simulations to train emergency teams within vital facilities.
