Vocational Rehabilitation Building inaugurated in Salalah

Salalah: The Directorate General of Social Development in Dhofar Governorate on Tuesday inaugurated the Vocational Rehabilitation Building at the Al Wafa Centre for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in Salalah, in collaboration with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).

Badr Fraish Al Yahyai, Director General of the Directorate General of Social Development in Dhofar Governorate, delivered a speech affirming that the building's opening contributes to providing a suitable environment for persons with disabilities and opens new horizons that enhance their potential. It will equip them with vocational skills that facilitate their integration into the labour market.

He added that this project represents a pioneering model of cooperation between the Ministry of Social Development and private sector companies in supporting empowerment and social rehabilitation programs.

For his part, Mohammed Ali Al Aghbari, Manager of External Affairs, Government Relations, and Communications at PDO, said that the project aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in enhancing the empowerment of community groups, providing sustainable economic opportunities, and supporting social development initiatives that contribute to building a more productive society.

The building includes a number of specialized halls, such as: the Essential Oils Distillation Hall, Food Manufacturing Hall, Multi-Printing Hall, Paper Recycling and Manufacturing Hall, and Agriculture and Products Hall. It also features a permanent exhibition for products, allowing beneficiaries to train in commerce, marketing, and selling products to the public.

The implementation of the training programs is supervised by a specialised team in vocational rehabilitation, along with trainers, artisans, and assistant technicians. This ensures the quality of services provided and the effectiveness of programs aimed at improving social services for persons with disabilities in Dhofar Governorate.

The opening was held under the auspices of Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development, who felicitated the supporting entities and companies. The opening ceremony also included a visual presentation about the building and the services it offers.
