Liwa: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology on Thursday opened Liwa Dual Carriageway Link in North Al Batinah Governorate. The 5.5-km link runs between Liwa roundabout, on Sultan Qaboos Road, and the intersection of Al Batinah Expressway.
The project was carried out by conducting four main operations:
Converting the existing road from a single carriageway to a dual carriageway with two lanes in each direction (with a 22.1 metres cross-section); the construcion of two new roundabouts; the construction of entry and exit routes; and the construction of service roads on both sides of the road to ease the flow of traffic.
The project was implemented in accordance with standard specifications, including traffic safety measures, protective barriers, guiding signs, coloured alerts and lighting poles.
The road is scheduled to facilitate traffic between the centre of the Wilayat of Liwa and nearby villages, enhance commercial activity and serve road users along the road linking Sohar Port and Sohar Free Zone in a manner that supports economic growth in the region.
