Muscat to host three-day campaign on weather hazards and tsunami preparedness

Muscat: The National Awareness Campaign on Weather Hazards and Tsunami Risks, operating under the compelling slogan “Your Awareness, Your Safety,” is set to commence its fourth stop in Muscat Governorate on Tuesday, running for three consecutive days. This vital initiative underscores the Sultanate of Oman's significant emphasis on enhancing national readiness to confront the risks posed by tropical cyclones and tsunamis.

The comprehensive campaign is a collaborative effort spearheaded by the National Emergency Management Center, the Civil Aviation Authority, the Ministry of Information, and the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority. It is held in cooperation with the Muscat Governorate and the Ministry of Education, demonstrating a unified approach to public safety.

The primary goal of the campaign is to raise both public and institutional awareness regarding the dangers associated with severe weather conditions and tsunamis. Specifically, it seeks to:

Enhance knowledge of the multi-hazard early warning system.

Provide comprehensive guidance on proper behavior during emergencies.

Boost community preparedness through training programs and diverse activities.

Targeting representatives from government and private sectors, civil society organizations, and charitable teams, the three-day program in Muscat includes key components such as meetings, seminars, practical drills, and the distribution of specialized awareness materials. An accompanying awareness exhibition will also be held.

By fostering a culture of public awareness, the campaign aims to ensure swift and effective emergency responses across the Sultanate, thereby minimising human and material losses. Following its initial focus on coastal governorates, the campaign is scheduled to expand to cover various regions across Oman.
