MUSCAT: The vision of the Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) has always extended far beyond its stage; it is deeply rooted in the growth and enrichment of Oman’s creative community. This commitment was brought to life this week through the successful debut of the ROHM Children’s Choir, a project that stands as a tangible result of transforming raw potential into artistic excellence through dedicated educational pathways.
The Royal Opera House Muscat proudly celebrated the official launch of the choir as they took to the main stage for the first time, performing in Giacomo Puccini’s masterpiece, Tosca, on 29 and 31 January 2026. This milestone marked a significant chapter in the House’s mission to nurture young musical talent and share Omani voices with the world.
The ensemble, comprising 34 young singers aged 8 to 12—including 14 talented Omani participants—delivered a remarkable performance that demonstrated the success of months of intensive preparation. As the first children’s choir established by ROHM, the group represents a sustainable pathway for young voices to engage with professional opera at the highest international level.
Umberto Fanni, Director General of the Royal Opera House Muscat, stated:
“The launch of the ROHM Children’s Choir is a moment of immense pride. This project reflects our long-term vision to develop Omani talent while offering young people meaningful access to world-class artistic experiences. By investing in these children, we are not only enriching their lives but also actively shaping the future of performance arts in Oman.”
The children’s successful debut followed a rigorous training programme that combined vocal technique, musicianship, and stage discipline. Under the guidance of local and international specialists, including Ilham Al Toqi, Joanna Brown, and Dania Zadjali, with music specialist Faisal Al Shibli, international vocal coach Marcella Polidori, and Chorus Master Sara Matteucci, the choir navigated their first professional production with confidence and joy.
Further ensuring the sustainability of this musical legacy, ROHM also highlighted its ‘Younger Voices’ group (ages 4 to 7). This foundational programme focuses on early musical development, preparing the next generation for future participation in the main choir.
Following their acclaimed performances in Tosca, the ROHM Children’s Choir will now look forward to their next major appearance in the Pipe Organ Concert scheduled for April 2026. These initiatives continue to underline the Royal Opera House Muscat’s dedication to education, community engagement, and the evolving cultural landscape of the Sultanate.
