
Muscat: Oman Cancer Association (OCA) held an event on Wednesday to mark World Cancer Day, observed annually on 4 February, to underscore the importance of enhancing community awareness regarding cancer risks and promoting a culture of prevention and early detection, while providing psychological and social support to patients and their families.
The celebration included several awareness events and educational activities that focused on the latest developments in prevention and treatment, as well as the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles to reduce cancer risks, with the participation of health specialists and volunteers.
The ceremony featured a keynote speech on World Cancer Day and a visual presentation on “Dar Al Hanan,” which showcased the care services provided to resident families from various governorates across the Sultanate of Oman.
Furthermore, supporters were honored in recognition of their contributions and their role in supporting the Association’s programmes and its humanitarian and awareness initiatives.
Dr. Wahid Ali Al Kharousi, Chairman of Oman Cancer Association, stated in his speech that marking World Cancer Day is a significant occasion to bolster community awareness about cancer and its prevention methods.
He noted that this year’s event coincides with the 15th anniversary of the founding of “Dar Al Hanan,” which is considered a prominent humanitarian initiative in the care of children with cancer and their families.
He emphasised the vital role of the community in supporting Dar Al Hanan to ensure the provision of integrated services, including accommodation, treatment, transportation, and family care, calling upon community members to contribute to bringing smiles back to the faces of children affected by cancer.

This year’s World Cancer Day is held under the theme “ United by Unique,” focusing on the importance of respecting the differing experiences of cancer patients and promoting a comprehensive care approach that places the individual at the center of attention, while reaffirming the value of community solidarity in facing the disease.
