Muscat: Oman finished second thanks to a draw between the UAE and Bahrain on the final day of the GCC Olympic (Under-23) Football Championship in the Qatari capital of Doha on Wednesday.
Oman, who are coached by Hamad Al Azzani, finished their engagements in the five-team competition on Wednesday with a goalless draw with the UAE, a result that helped them to seven points from four games.
The UAE, going into their final game against Bahrain on Friday, had the opportunity to overtake Oman with victory but they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw by the Bahrainis, leading to Oman clinching the second place.
Meanwhile, unbeaten Saudi Arabia defeated Qatar 3-0 in the last match of the tournament, played on round robin league format, to emerge champions with 12 points.
The UAE finished third with five points.
Final standings: 1. Saudi Arabia 12 points, 2. Oman 7 pts, 3. UAE 5 pts, 4. Qatar 3 pts, 5. Bahrain 1 pt.
