Construction of shrimp farming project kicks off in Shinas

Shinas: Construction activities of a white-legged shrimp aquaculture project kicked off in the Wilayat of Shinas, North Al Batinah Governorate.

The project, which costs OMR23.5 million and covers an area of 15 hectares, is in pursuance of national efforts to enhance food security and diversify sources of income. It is being carried out in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, which aims to augment investments in non-oil sectors.

Scheduled to produce 7,500 tonnes of white-legged shrimps annually, the project emerges as one of the largest aquaculture projects in the Sultanate of Oman.

The project aims to boost the local economy, provide new investment opportunities and generate direct employment opportunities for Omani youth, besides providing indirect jobs that result from operational tasks and supply chains.

In addition, the project will provide an ideal environment for transferring knowledge and localizing modern technology in the field of aquaculture by enhancing the efficiency of human resources in this promising sector.
