Muscat: The Environment Authority launched today in Muscat the national digital platform "Manakh" for managing and reporting climate change data. The platform serves as an integrated national system dedicated to managing emissions data and greenhouse gas inventories across the Sultanate of Oman.
The launch of the platform was held under the auspices of Dr. Abdullah Ali Al Amri, Chairman of the Environment Authority.
The platform aims to enhance the governance of climate data by enabling government entities and various facilities to input, collect, and update emissions data and mitigation measures in a periodic and organized manner, thereby contributing to the improvement of data quality and accuracy.
The Environment Authority clarified that the platform relies on the methodologies and guidelines approved by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), ensuring data consistency and comparability in accordance with international standards.
The Authority added that the platform is based on the application of several methodologies for data reporting, measurement, and verification, which enhances data reliability and transparency. This is achieved through clear mechanisms for data review and verification, tracking sources, and documentation according to the best international practices, a process that highly supports the efficient preparation of both national and international reports.
Furthermore, the Authority indicated that the "Manakh" platform provides an integrated framework for inventorying and tracking greenhouse gas emissions data across various sectors. It offers the ability to measure the impact resulting from these measures and to monitor progress towards achieving national emission reduction targets. The platform also enables the preparation of national and international climate change reports and communications, including Biennial Transparency Reports (BTR) and National Inventory Reports, in accordance with the requirements of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), thereby enhancing compliance with the Enhanced Transparency Framework requirements.
It is worth noting that the "Manakh" platform contributes to supporting the achievement of the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the implementation of the National Net Zero Strategy 2050. This is accomplished by providing an integrated national system for monitoring emissions and enhancing coordination among relevant stakeholders, which ultimately supports the Sultanate of Oman's efforts in confronting the challenges of climate change and achieving sustainable development.
