
Muscat: The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion(MoCIIp), has warned against the provision of legal services by unlicensed individuals.
The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion has observed that some libraries, document copying offices, Sanad Service Centres, transaction follow-up offices, and certain other activities are providing services of a legal nature, including the preparation of statements of claim and legal memoranda, the provision of legal advice, the drafting of contracts and taking steps to have them notarised before the competent authorities for those who request them, as well as taking company incorporation procedures.
Such activities fall within advocacy and legal consultancy activities, which may not be practised by unlicensed persons, in violation of Royal Decree No. 41/2024 promulgating the Advocacy and Legal Consultancy Law. The practice of these activities is restricted, as applicable, to law firms and legal consultancy offices licensed by the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs
Accordingly, the Ministry calls on all the above-mentioned activities to comply with the provisions of the law and to immediately refrain from providing any of the aforementioned legal services, in order to avoid the legal measures prescribed against violators under the applicable legislation.
