Kuwait: Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced on Friday, July 17, 2026, that one of its primary power generation and water distillation plants was attacked as a result of Iranian aggression against the country, according to KUNA.
The ministry stated that the strike caused significant damage to the plant’s infrastructure, ignited a fire, and affected a large number of electricity generation units. This disruption prompted the immediate activation of emergency protocols designed to contain the impact and maintain the stability of the national power grid.
Kuwait Fire Force teams successfully brought the blaze under control, allowing the ministry’s emergency and technical personnel to coordinate with relevant authorities. These teams have begun assessing the physical damage, securing the facility, and working to restore the affected generation units to service as quickly as possible.
The ministry affirmed that technical teams are working around the clock to ensure uninterrupted utility services and to monitor the network for any potential secondary impacts. In light of these exceptional circumstances, authorities have urged citizens and residents to rationalize their electricity consumption, emphasizing that public cooperation is vital to support grid stability and assist technical teams as they repair the damaged facilities. The ministry added that it will continue to provide official updates as the situation develops.
