London: Delegated by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, His Highnness Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said took part in a celebration organised by the Anglo-Omani Society to mark its 40th anniversary.
To mark the occasion, a reception was held at the Lancaster House in London in the presence of Prince Charles of Wales, Tobias Ellwood, undersecretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for Middle East and North Africa and Sheikh Abdulaziz Al Hinai, the Sultanate’s ambassador to the United Kingdom.
The reception was also attended by the heads of the Gulf Cooperation Council Diplomatic Missions in London, members of the Anglo-Omani Society, academics and journalists, along with Omani and UK businessmen, who are members of the Anglo-Omani Society.
The ceremony started with musical performances, after which Robert Alston, chairman of the Society delivered a speech during he welcomed Sayyid Shihab and Prince Charles.
Prince Charles of Wales delivered a speech expressing his joy for being invited to attend the 40th anniversary of the Anglo-Omani Society, wishing more success for the society.
During his speech, Prince Charles affirmed that His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, patron and founder of this Society had been far-sighted in establishing the Society to become a living example of the strong relations between the two friendly countries.
Student exchange
He added that the student exchange programme is the most notable example of developing relations between Prince of Wales Charity Fund and Anglo-Omani Society in diverse fields.
He also used this opportunity to announce that the Omani-UK expedition to cross the Empty Quarter had been completed and that the three explorers have reached the final destination. He reiterated that the expedition was another example of the good cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields.
On his part, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, delivered a speech thanking His Majesty the Sultan for delegating him to attend the celebration of the Anglo-Omani Society.
He appreciated the efforts and activities initiated by the new generation of the Society’s members, which serves as an example of the sustainability of the strong relations between the two countries since the 1798 Convention.
