Muscat Airport parking meters accepting new OMR1 notes now

Muscat: Airport visitors will now be able to pay their parking fees using the new OMR1 note after airport authorities updated their system.
Prior to the improvement, visitors and passengers at the Muscat International Airport were being inconvenienced as they could only use old OMR1 notes to pay the parking fee as the system was not updated to accept the new notes.
However, the Oman Airport Management Company (OAMC) was able to solve the problem by updating the machines in coordination with the vendor.
“We had observed the issue shortly after the date of issuing and circulating the new OMR1 notes and the vendor had been informed about it; the necessary actions have been taken by OAMC,” the company said in a statement.
“We completed the configuration of the pay machine on September 8 before the beginning of the Eid-Al-Adha holidays.”
Some airports have enabled the use of debit or credit cards to pay the parking fees and this is considered practical if the visitor or passenger does not have spare change.
The Times of Oman had asked OAMC if it plans to implement debit or credit cards to pay the parking fees.
In response the OAMC said, “Since the highest number of users are paying between 500 baizas and OMR3, they prefer to pay by cash; and also we have a lot of ATM machines available in the arrival and departure halls.”
“In addition we are working to add this facility to our car parking operation in the near future,” said OAMC.
