Muscat: Target LLC has come forward to sponsor Oman’s rally driver Khalid Soomar for another season following their successful partnership during the last year.
As part of the sponsorship agreement — as in the last season — Target will support the veteran rally driver and help him in participate both in the local Oman Rally Championship and the UAE Rally Championship.
Announcing the renewal of the sponsorship agreement, Yousef Al Shamas, Managing Director of Target LLC, said: “The private sector must contribute in supporting sports, youth and social activities. The private sector should encourage and support deserving candidates to actively participate in the events and achieve honourable results in local and international competitions.”
“I am personally happy for what Khalid Soomar has achieved during his long career in the motorsport. We believe that Khalid now needs all the support to continue his journey of excellence,” he added.
Tareq Al Shamas, Resources and Facilities Manager at Target, said: “Target company is keen to support sports in general and motorsport in particular. Khalid Soomar enjoys a good reputation with a proven track record in motorsport in the Sultanate.”
Tarek added: “One of the company’s social responsibility is to support the sportspersons and provide them the care to ensure that they continue with their sporting careers.”
Khalid Soomar, while thanking Target for coming forward to support him for another season, said: “I am very happy and grateful to Target for standing behind me in previous year and renewing support for the current season. They deserve all the appreciation and praise, especially Yousef Al Shamas, Managing Director, and Tariq Al Shamas, Resources and Facilities Director, and Khalfan Al Qassimi, Administrative Manager.”
Khalid Soomar, meanwhile, revealed his plans to participate in the UAE Rally Championship, which concludes with Fujairah round in December, and Oman Rally Championship rounds.
Khalid Soomar is the three-time Oman rally champion having won the titles in 2004, 2008 and 2011.
