Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, received in his office on Tuesday Ban Ki-moon, Secretary General of the United Nations (UN) and his accompanying delegation. Ban Ki-moon reviewed the efforts being made by the UN in political, environment and humanitarian fields.
Sayyid Fahd praised the role being played by the UN in enhancing communication among countries of the world. He pointed out that the Sultanate, under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, accords great importance to cooperation with international and regional specialised organisations. He also affirmed the fundamentals of the Omani policy within its international relations aimed at supporting the sincere efforts for promoting security and stability, which are the basis to achieve sustainable development for various regions around the world.
Conversation during the meeting touched on the UN role in tackling issues and preparing the best means for understanding and preventing disputes.
Ban Ki-moon thanked and appreciated His Majesty the Sultan for his support to the UN. He also expressed his gratitude for this visit and his admiration over the successes made by the Sultanate in the local and international arenas, thanks to its wise policies. He also praised the constant support provided by Oman and other international organisations, as well as their positive contribution in solving many crises, encouraging dialogue and consensus to solve all disputes peacefully.
