Muscat: HRH Prince Charles met a select group of young leaders from Oman at the Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz Carlton Hotel, this morning, while Duchess Camilla spent her time visiting libraries and a book store, on the last day of their visit to the Sultanate.
The Prince of Wales, accompanied by His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Futaisi, Minister of Transport and Communications in Oman, and other dignitaries, individually greeted and spoke to representatives of every participating organisation.
Members from the British Council, Anglo-Omani society, UK Alumni, Connecting Cultures, Outward Bound Oman, John Smith Fellows, The Prince’s Trust and various other organisations interacted with the Prince.
Mark Evans, General Manager at Outward Bound Oman, was at the gathering with his team. He said, “It was a great honour for us to meet him, but also a great opportunity for him to learn about some of the fantastic work being done here in Oman by various organizations. I know the Prince is very interested in the region and its culture. He was very interested in the ‘Connecting Cultures’ program we spoke about, which promotes intercultural dialogue.

“He was also the patron of our Empty Quarter journey, so Amor, Mohammed and I, the three of us met with him and showed him some images from our journey and the old maps we followed and he was particularly interested in those.”
Nujaida Al Maskery, a participant from ‘Connecting Cultures,’ was really happy to be a part of the event. She said, “Basically, I think it was a very interesting event, because one gets to understand different perspectives. Maybe we were chosen because we are unique. I think it all went very smoothly and we had a very nice talk with the Prince.”
Where the Prince of Wales met with the young leaders, Duchess Camilla spent the Sunday morning visiting different institutions that had one thing in common: encouraging children to read.
