In an exclusive interview with the Times of Oman, the Managing Director of US-Bangla Airlines, Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun said Omani citizens and expatriates can now travel to Kolkata, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and several destinations in Bangladesh with a brief stopover in the country. “Flights to all these destinations will begin from this year,” he said.
The Muscat International Airport welcomed the first direct flight of US-Bangla Airlines on Saturday.
Al Mamun also said there are plans to connect Salalah in Oman with a direct flight to Bangladesh. “We are working on this but that may take some time,” he said.
He also said they are delighted to extend their operations to the second international destination, the Sultanate of Oman. “We are certain that our services connecting Bangladesh to Oman will be successful,” he said.
US-Bangla Airlines, voted as the best domestic airline in Bangladesh in 2015, will fly four times a week from Muscat to Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet. “But very soon we will fly daily to Muscat,” he said.
Commenting on the addition of direct flights to Bangladesh, Ali Zayed Al Balushi, head of Operations at Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC) said, “At OAMC, we endeavour to expand our international relations by attracting more international airlines to operate their flights directly from the Muscat International Airport. The addition of direct flights to Bangladesh is of great benefit to travellers from both countries, and will help raise the profile of the Muscat International Airport.”
Office inaugurated
The city office of US-Bangla Airlines was also inaugurated on Saturday evening at Hamriya.
US-Bangla Airlines has appointed Travel Point LLC as its general sales agent (GSA) in Oman. Commenting on the partnership, Sunil Prabhakar said, “This move is a highly strategic and beneficial decision that will work in favour of the larger community of Bangladesh nationals that reside in Sultanate of Oman. We are thankful to the OAMC for being extremely supportive in bringing the airline to Oman. We are sure this proposition will yield good results for both countries and provide a cost effective service to all those intending to visit or travel to Bangladesh.”
As an inaugural offer, US-Bangla Airlines is offering fares as low as OMR45 to Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.
US-Bangla Airlines (USBA) Ltd. is an affiliate of the US-Bangla Group, located in Dhaka.
