MUSCAT: In a bid to reduce the number of unskilled women workers entering the Sultanate, stricter regulations for women entering from certain countries have been introduced by the Royal Oman Police, according to a statement on the force's official twitter account.
“Royal Oman Police confirms that certain restrictions have been put in place for women seeking tourist visas from certain countries,” the ROP tweet read.
In February, Oman stopped issuing visas for domestic workers from Ethiopia, Kenya, Senegal, Guinea and Cameroon.
Recently, restrictions aimed at reducing the number of Bangladeshi workers coming to Oman had also been implemented.
“There is a move to decrease the size of the Bangladeshi workforce in the Sultanate. This is not for all professions. The focus is only on (reducing) the unskilled workforce. Sanad offices have been directed by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) to follow these instructions,” according to a senior official.
The official added that the police have adopted such measures, given the increase in the number of certain nationalities coming to Oman.
