Muscat: Defending champions Ahli-Sidab joined arch-rivals Seeb on top of Muscat Group after a well-deserved 3-1 victory over Saham in His Majesty’s Cup Hockey Championship on Saturday.
The victory helps Ahli-Sidab take their tally to seven points from three outings. Seeb, who were beaten 3-2 by Bausher, are also on seven points but have played one match more than title holders.
Bausher, who won two of the three matches they have played so far, are in third place on six points.
They are followed by Sohar (3 from 3), Saham (3 from 4) and Quriyat (3 from 3) in that order based on the goals difference.
The action in the Muscat Group resumes on December 1 when Quriyat face Bausher and Sohar take on Ahli-Sidab.
Al Nasr lead
Meanwhile, Al Nasr, who thumped Al Ittihad 5-0 on Saturday, are leading the Salalah Group with nine points earned from four matches.
Mohammed Hubeis did the star turn for Al Nasr on Saturday scoring four goals while Mohammed Amin completed the tally in their dominant victory over Ittihad.
Salalah Club are currently in second place with seven points from three matches. They are followed by Dhofar (4 from 3) and winless Al Ittihad.
In a crucial match of the group scheduled for Monday, Al Nasr take on Dhofar. With the top two directly advancing to the next round, a lot will be in stake for the teams, especially for Dhofar, who will be hoping to clinch a direct berth in the second round.
The third placed team will play a play-off with the fourth placed team from Muscat Group for a place in the next round.
